Year one

I've successfully faffed about on the computer for an hour when my intention was to do some research for an essay due in two weeks.  I've enjoyed reading and commenting on all of your blogs for over an hour and now at 8.38pm, 8.47pm, 8.49pm, I don't feel like doing any research at all.

I handed in my third Great Books essay today - a comparative essay on the theme of 'family' in Medea and The Cherry Orchard.  I don't feel as positive about it as I did my last one but we'll see.  I now have only four weeks to go and I've done my first year and a half at uni!!!  I am sooooo looking forward to having a few months off and am beginning to miss doing housework!  I used to find it so mind numbing but that's exactly what I'm looking forward to - some mind numbing activities to give my poor little brain a rest!

I have two essays due in two weeks, followed by an exam, followed by a poetry essay and then I can relax.  I'm already planning on having a night out with some friends when all is done, to celebrate the completion of my very first year... well almost.  I plan to do Italian over the summer and THEN my first year will be finished.  Any excuse for a drink!!

Anyway, time for bed. Looks like it's research tomorrow. Night night.

  1. Wow....we should drink together! I sat here today planning on working. I have spent the better part of the last 2 hours on blogs! I have 2 books to read by next week, a paper to write on one of them, an experiment to do by next week with a write-up on that. I am about 100 pages behind in Archaeology readings. I have a book to finish making for my book-making class (studio art minor) and 2 drawings to complete for Advanced drawing. I have to lead a review session for an exam tomorrow night (I am a Teacher Assistant for the class) and I DON'T EVEN REMEMBER THE MATERIAL MYSELF! Please God, don't let them ask me any questions! Better yet, God, can they just not show up and study the material on their own?? The good news is...the time flies! I have 7 months left until I graduate but then 2 years after that for grad school. I can't believe I am already turning in my application for grad school!!!

Congratulations on being almost a year and a half done and good luck with all you have to do!!! ENJOY YOUR MIND-NUMBING ACTIVITIES!!! I look forward to them too!!!!

  4. Hi my name is Yvonne and I am a very mature age student and have only 4 weeks until I finish my 3 year degree. My interest in your blog was initiated by an assignment I have to complete in a Media and Culture unit. I had never visited a blog before so I was looking for one that interested me. When I started reading your blog I found an immediate understanding of your experiences at uni.
After working in offices for most of my life I decided to study because it was always an unfulfilled dream of mine. I have discovered that I am quite good at writing and with the encouragement I have received from my lecturers I intend to devote the rest of my life to writing. It is something I can pursue despite the physical limitations of old age restricting my future activities.
I understand how you feel about taking time out to conduct research and counting the number of assignments to complete before the end of the semester. I have to complete 1 essay, 2 reports, 1 presentation and 2 small in class exams. Then that's it. I will miss going to uni and having the academic association, but as I only live 5 minutes from campus I will probably visit from time to time to catch up with other students and my very friendly and approachable lecturers.
Hope you don't mind my rambling on like this and would love to read more of your journal via your blog.

  5. Thank you so much for your comment, Yvonne (not a ramble at all). It's always nice to know there are other mature age students out there and it's a great testament to what we're all capable of. Congratulations on almost finishing!! What a wonderful sense of achievement you must feel - good on you! My graduation party is something I fantasize about!! You are an inspiration. Good luck!

If you don't have anything nice to say, please don't say anything at all!

I've done it!!!

Well, I've finally done it!! Got accepted into Uni AND created a blog!!! After searching for insightful websites to help me tackle my journey into academia at my ripe old age and coming up with nil, I decided to start one of my own. I hope this blog will encourage anyone who has ever doubted their own abilities, to put one foot in front of the other and achieve their ambitions, desires, dreams...no matter what they are. If anyone has any inspiring stories to share, I would love to hear them. I love an inspiring story!!!
